How It Started

Citrus Mobile started with a frustrating layover in Istanbul in 2025. Our founder had just landed from a 14-hour flight, needed to message his family that he'd arrived safely, and was staring at a $12/day roaming charge from his carrier. The airport SIM card kiosk had a 40-minute line. The free WiFi required a Turkish phone number to activate.

He ended up paying $45 for a week of data he barely used. And on the flight home, he couldn't stop thinking: why is staying connected abroad still this painful in 2025?

That question became an obsession. After months of research, conversations with telecom insiders, and late nights learning how eSIM technology actually works under the hood, Citrus Mobile was born — built on a simple belief that mobile data should work like electricity. You use it, you pay for what you use, and nobody tries to lock you into a plan you don't need.

We wanted a name that felt fresh, bright, and a little unexpected for a telecom company. Citrus fruits grow in warm climates all over the world — just like our network covers countries all over the world. Plus, nobody wants another brand called "GlobalConnect" or "TravelSIM Pro." Life's too short for boring names.

What's Next

We're a small team and we like it that way. Every dollar we don't spend on overhead is a dollar we don't need to charge you. But small doesn't mean unambitious — we're constantly working on expanding coverage, improving speeds, and making the experience even simpler.
